Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center


The project consisted of a 27,600-square foot renovation and construction of the new 155,400 gsf classroom addition. Work also includes constructing a 5,000 square-foot central utility building as well as performing site and utility improvements. Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center at the University of Maryland will accommodate 2,000 students in multiple classrooms ranging in size from 80 to 320 seats. All spaces will be equipped with the latest classroom technologies managed from a centralized technology service unit.

Kim Engineering provided material testing services in accordance with all requirements of Prince George’s County Third-Party Inspection Program: Field density testing of backfill, soil laboratory testing, fireproofing testing, observation of post-tensioned and traditionally reinforced concrete, reinforced masonry inspections including observation of reinforcing steel, floor moisture testing, grout, and mortar sampling and testing, on-site testing of concrete including slump, temperature, and molding of concrete cylinders, and structural steel inspection.
