About Kim Engineering, Inc
Kim Engineering, Inc. (KEI), founded in 1993 by Sunny Kim, is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm who provides clients with the full range of services, including, but not limited to, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, surveying, construction materials testing and inspections, contract administration, and landscape architecture services.
Our comprehensive scope of services and overall engineering expertise enables us to work with our clients on a total-project basis. KEI stays with our clients from start to finish, delivering personalized services and added value. At KEI, our clients come first with a passion of taking on technical challenges for both public and private sector projects. It is our belief that engineering is the future and we take pride in delivering the best product catered to our client’s needs utilizing our staff’s expertise and talent.
Our main office is located in Laurel, Maryland with a branch office located in Baltimore, Maryland. KEI is comprised of approximately 70 employees and has a total of five drill rigs.
Kim Engineering, Inc. is certified as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE). We have our own drilling equipment and certified laboratory for materials testing.

Sunny Kim P.E.
PRESIDENT
Sunny Kim has provided oversight for engineering and geotechnical services for over 40 years throughout the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area for more than a thousand projects including geotechnical studies and report preparation for numerous types of projects such as foundation design for high-rise buildings, storm water management facilities, site investigations and construction inspections. He has a Master of Engineering degree in geotechnical engineering from Virginia Tech and is a registered P.E. in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. Professional memberships include American Society of Civil Engineers, American Council of Engineering Companies, Associated Builders and Contractors, and the Maryland Building Industry Association.

Marco Gravina P.E.
V.P. OF GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING
Marco Gravina brings over 36 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and drilling. As Vice President of Geotechnical Engineering at Kim Engineering, he leads subsurface investigations and geotechnical analysis across the Mid-Atlantic. His expertise includes foundation design, slope stability, pavement systems, and construction inspections. Marco previously owned and operated Recon Drilling, Inc., managing complex drilling operations throughout the D.C. region. He is highly experienced in SPT sampling, rock coring, field instrumentation, and reinforced slope systems. He holds a B.S. in Civil and Geotechnical Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Maryland and Virginia.

Brandon Fritz, P.E.
V.P. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING
Mr. Fritz is a licensed professional engineer with over 20 years of experience in all aspects of project development, including planning, design, permitting, and construction of land development infrastructure projects. He has designed and managed a broad range of projects that include feasibility studies, conceptual and entitlement plans, and final engineering plans for roadway design, utility design, sediment control, and stormwater management. For over a decade, he has provided leadership, management, and oversight in land development as a Project Manager in various Maryland market sectors: federal, municipal, institutional, commercial, residential, and mixed use. His breadth of experience provides him a comprehensive perspective in handling the unique challenges that often arise in development projects.

Fara Jawara, C.E.T.
V.P. OF CONSTRUCTION SERVICES
Mr. Fara Jawara has worked in the Construction Industry for over 20 years. In 1997, Fara was Construction Engineer with Engineering Consulting Services in Hanover MD. In 2001, he served as Project Manager for CTI Consultants, Inc in Rockville MD and in 2003, as Asst. Project Manager with WCS Construction LLC in Washington, DC and in 2009, as Project Manager for the First Step EOZ Inc in Alexandria, VA. Fara has worked on and was instrumental in the successful completion of the New American Red Cross HQ in Washington DC, the IKEA Flagship Superstore at College Park, Maryland and most recently the National Historic Registered Building Renovation and Retrofit of the Tremont Grand in Baltimore, Maryland. He studied Geotechnical Engineering at the University Of New York at Stony Brook and is certified by the Washington D.C, Area Council of Engineering Laboratories and the American Society of Certified Engineering Technologists. He also has a Construction Project Management Professional Certification and certified by OSHA in Occupational Safety and Health in Construction.

Matt Pak P.E.
V.P. OF FIRE PROTECTION ENGINEERING
Matt Pak is a licensed professional engineer with over 12 years of experience in fire protection engineering and code consulting. As Vice President of Fire Protection Engineering at Kim Engineering, he provides technical leadership on fire alarm, suppression, mass notification, and life safety system designs across a range of public sector, institutional, and federal projects. His expertise includes code analysis reports, engineering judgments, system inspections, and coordination with complex architectural and MEP systems. Matt’s deep experience with higher education, government, and laboratory facilities gives him a strong understanding of the regulatory and technical challenges involved in delivering safe, compliant, and innovative fire protection solutions. -
Richard Kimes
V.P. OF DRILLING SERVICES
Mr. Kimes has over 35 years drilling and managing in the geotechnical and environmental drilling industry. His experience ranges from drilling in support of local Phase 2 ESA’s for environmental consultants, drilling for investigations, product recovery and monitoring systems for major oil companies, drilling in support of investigations at DOD facilities located all along the mid-Atlantic and substantial experience drilling at private landfills and Superfund Landfills all over the eastern United States. In addition to environmental drilling experience, Rich has performed geotechnical drilling projects continuously for small and large geotechnical engineering firms over the length of his career.

Nathan Small
V.P. OF SURVEYING
Nathan Small has over 10 years of experience in land surveying, specializing in topographic surveys, boundary mapping, utility designation, and construction stakeout. As Vice President of Surveying at Kim Engineering, he oversees field crews and manages the execution of surveying operations throughout Maryland, Washington D.C., and surrounding regions. His leadership ensures the delivery of accurate, high-quality survey data for public infrastructure, transportation, and land development projects. Trained in AutoCAD and the principles of surveying, Nathan is recognized for his precision in the field, effective time management, and dedication to maintaining high standards across all phases of project delivery.

Joshua Kim P.E.
ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT
Joshua Kim has over 6 years of experience in civil engineering with a focus on stormwater management, sediment control, and site development design. As Assistant Vice President of Civil Engineering at Kim Engineering, he supports the planning and execution of residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects throughout Maryland. His expertise includes grading, drainage, and utility design, as well as preparing and securing regulatory approvals at the county and state levels. Joshua brings a solutions-oriented approach to every project, ensuring technical accuracy and efficient delivery across all phases of design.

Andrew Sailo
VICE PRESIDENT
Andrew Sailo serves as Vice President of Kim Engineering, bringing over 12 years of experience in environmental consulting, engineering, and construction management. He provides executive oversight across the firm’s operations, with a proven track record in leading large-scale environmental programs, regulatory compliance efforts, and multidisciplinary project delivery. Andrew’s expertise spans Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, industrial hygiene services, air and water quality monitoring, and environmental risk mitigation for public and private sector clients. His leadership is defined by strategic vision, operational excellence, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, compliant solutions across diverse markets.

Jay Jung

OUR ACCREDITATIONS
We maintain an AASHTO R18 accredited geotechnical and construction materials testing laboratory in Beltsville, MD, and our field technicians are ACI and MARTCP certified.
